After completing the Master degree from University of Calcutta in 2006, Dr. Thakur obtained his Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry in 2012 at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM). He did his 1st post-doctoral research at  Technical University, Dresden, Germany, and 2nd at IISER Kolkata, India. Then he joined as a DST-Inspired faculty at NIT Rourkela. Dr. Thakur hold the position as an Assistant Professor in Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Recently, Dr. Thakur has received SERB-International research excellence fellowship (2022-2023) to conduct collaborative research work at Texas A&M University (USA) with Prof. Francois P. Gabbai.  He is the recipient of SERB-International Research Experience fellowship (2022-2023) to carry out collaborative research with Prof François P. Gabbaï at Texas A&M University, the USA where he is currently serving as a visiting professor (2025-2026). He is the recipient of prestigious CRSI-Bronze Medal (2026), and Thieme Chemistry Journal Award (2026) among others. He has served as guest editor of a special issue in Inorganica Chimica Acta (2024) by Elsevier and he is currently serving as an editorial board member of the journal “Discover Chemistry” by Springer.
